A Bobcat visits the Pond

There have (sadly) been less bobcats in the last few months.  I think it has something to do with the unusual snow that sat frozen around all of our yard for almost all of February and much of March.  I think the bobcats went elsewhere to find an easier place to live and look for food.  Of course, if that is the case, it was great news for our bunnies, mice and other bobcat prey!  Just this week, we've had a few more sightings of bobcats - here's one by the pond (which is almost completely dried up for the summer).

Bear vs Trough

If you thought it was only the blue wading pools that the bear tried to destroy - you were mistaken.  Here, the bear tries to obliterate the black trough - stopping in between to play with a couple of balls.  There's a moment when she even tries to tightrope walk on the edges of the trough...

Unknown Weasel Variety!

Marten?  Fisher?  Ermine?  Weasel?  Mink?

This is only the 3rd or 4th time we've seen one of these in the last 5 years or so!!!

Anyone know what kind it is?  I added a slo-mo instant replay to help identify.

Owl RomCom

This is two owls getting romantic by the pool before the bear destroyed it the next day.  In fact, in a future video, the owl lands in the destroyed, empty pool - looking for a bath - and seems bewildered as to where the water went.

More Bear Wackiness

Get out of the way! Fun is being had.

Another Pool Bites It!

This bear had a ton of fun for quite a while, playing with the balls and in the water.  She was determined to destroy the pool (and was successful).  There are many more videos of her playful time forthcoming.  BTW, I'm doubtful that it was 108 degrees - I don't measuring think the temp is this camera's forte.

Three Deer Cage Match

These deer wanted to settle things in a hurry - so they all jumped in the ring together at once.  In the end though, like most deer spats, it didn't amount to much and they all just stopped fighting and started eating again.

Heron in the winter!

We have never seen a heron in our yard in the winter.  They usually only show up in the summer and eat all the tadpoles out of the then shrinking pond (damn it)!  But this one showed up just after the pond started forming again last week and is looking for food.  The pond seems clear and devoid of life right now, but she's sticking around, so she must like something.

Back from Facebook!

Facebook is run by a bunch of heartless assholes who fund the torturing of and testing on animals - so I abandoned it. Now, to continue the Animals in Our Yard tradition...
